This May I visited another Pop Up Interactive Art Installation in NYC called the Egg House. It reminded me of the popular Museum of Ice cream pop up around the world, but with an egg theme instead of ice cream. At first I was a little skeptical, but of course once I started to see the pictures online I wanted to see it for myself.
The Egg House is located in lower Manhattan near East Village and Soho. You definitely cannot miss it once your on the same street with it’s bright yellow colors and line of people waiting outside. Much like many of the pop ups around New York, you HAVE to purchase your tickets in advance online which will allow you a certain time slot to experience the exhibit. If you miss your time slot you will not be refunded your ticket, so it’s best to plan to arrive 15 minutes early to begin to line up with the rest of the people in your set group time.
People of all ages can attend this event, including children. Sometimes pop ups like this have an age requirement, like I mentioned in my other post The Dream Machine NYC pop up, but this one was open to everyone. You pick a date and time that you would like to visit, and it takes about 30-40 minutes to complete the entire experience. The team will remind you when it’s close to the end of your session by playing a unique song specialized towards your group.
The Egg House will give you great photo ops and “instagrammable moments”. It offers six rooms of installations and interactive experiences. The main room is the Foyer, Then the Kitchen, The Garden, The Pool, and the Secret room. I thought the rooms would be separated by doors like other installations I’ve experienced, however the entire experience is pretty open and to start The Foyer is the first area you walk into. I sat in the cart and took a picture in front of the yellow backdrop here, but then when I finished once Egg House associate asked me not to sit on the cart, so I do n0t recommend copying me lol.
The next area was called the Kitchen which allowed you to sit in a huge carton of eggs that can be held, or shifted around for a photo. Pink spatulas hung from the ceiling which was cute, in front of the pink refrigerator painted on the wall behind the eggs.
If you continue to walk straight through the installation and do not turn to go downstairs to the Garden, you will walk right into the pool. The pool is a big yellow and white ball pit. This is the route I walked through the installation. I didn’t even realize there was a downstairs at first. I had fun in the pool and thought the vintage yellow phone and silver palm tree was really cute. It was one of my favorite areas, but a bit crowded during the time I went. I would recommend booking a weekday if you are not into crowds or kids.
Behind the pool is a secret room where a virtual egg lives. LOL it was funny, but then kinda creepy, so I left. My friend liked it though and wrote him a special note.
I went on to the Garden downstairs as my final stop, and FINALLY found the Egg swing that I was looking for. It’s a bit darker downstairs, however I was still able to get a cute photo to post on Instagram. Fun Fact: There is a surprise in one of the walls downstairs. Let me know if you find it.
My favorite areas in the installation were the swing in the Garden, and the pool on the top floor which brought out my inner child per usual. I liked this yellow vintage telephone. It reminded me of an old white phone I used to keep and use as decoration in my room in high school.
Gifts are available for purchase from the gift shop stocked with tons of egg themed product. You can take pictures and video throughout the installation and interact with the art. I was informed that you can also purchase food at this event, but I did not eat anything or see food so I have no further information on that lol.
I was there for a total of 40 minutes! On your way out, the Egg staff will give you a mini egg with a cute pin inside. More stories are on my Instagram @msjenniferdanielle under events if you want to see a few video clips. I plan on placing a quick video here of the event and on Youtube soon.
The Egg House is open from April 7th until June 27th. Book your ticket now before it’s gone! How do you prefer your eggs, fried or scrambled? Would you visit this pop up?
